But college students signing up for free Amazon Student membership get Amazon Prime free for one year!
Other Amazon Student perks include student discounts and news on offers and promotions. Register with a .edu email address for the free Amazon Student with Amazon Prime to prove you’re a current college student. The Amazon Prime student deal is valid on products other than books, and eligible current Amazon Prime members can still register for Amazon Student, with a refund on the remainder of their subscription.

If you’re not in college but want to try Amazon Prime anyway, they offer a free one month trial. Cancel before the free trial ends or select “do not upgrade” after registering for the freebie, if you don’t want your credit card to be auto-charged $79 for the subscription at the end of the trial period.
As far as I can tell from reading the small print, the student Amazon Prime deal is NOT automatically upgraded / charged at the end of the year. It’s a completely free shipping deal.
